Medication Management

1. Aspirin 300mg has been prescribed by a doctor. 75mg tablets are available. How many tablets need to be given?

2. Erythromycin is prescribed at 12.5mg/kg. The stock solution is 1g in 2ml. If the patient weighs is 80kg; what is the total dose (in mg) required for patient? Please show your workings:

3. 80mg furosemide has been prescribed for a patient. It has been added to a bag of 0.9% Sodium Chloride and the total volume is 50mls. The infusion must run over 20 minutes. What will be the rate in mls/hr? Please show your workings.

4. If dosages of furosemide must not exceed 4 mg/minute- is this safe to give?

5. 100ml NaCL is prescribed and needs to run over 20 minutes. What will the rates in ml/hr be?

6. 50mg of Baclofen is prescribed. The stock dose is 25mg / 10ml. How many ml are required?

Scenario

1. You are caring for an 56 year old lady with a long term tracheostomy in situ, at home. During your shift she complains of difficulty on breathing, there are audible gurgling noises whilst breathing and her saturations are 92% and her pulse is 110bpm. What are your actions and how would you manage this situation? Using an ABCDE approach, comment patients condition. Please suggest a possible diagnosis and the priorities of his management.

2. A service user wants to go out to the shops and asks if you can take him/her in your car as he/she do not like going on the bus or take a taxi, what would you do?
